Attention 8th Graders and Parents - Class of 2021!
Next Saturday, October 29, 2016 is the second of two High School Choice Summits for families interested in applying to our eleven LBUSD high schools will take place, on the Liberal Arts Campus of Long Beach City College, 4901 East Carson Street, Long Beach, CA 90808 (view a map).
The Summit has two parts. First, there are ticketed workshop sessions where parents and students can learn more about the goals and academic expectations of our different pathways.
Second, there is an open exposition center that families can visit to speak with faculty, student, and parent ambassadors about their experience in each pathway.
Ticketed Workshop Sessions: Sign Up Now!
Just click the green button on this linked page to register now for the pathway workshop sessions you want to attend. Not all high schools are alike. Not every high school has the best programs for a particular student! That's why these workshops are so important. They are free, but be smart, and sign up beforehand. To give you an idea:
- Cabrillo HS is offering workshops on its programs in Global Logistics (AGL, co-sponsored by the Port of Long Beach), Law and Justice (CALJ), Engineering & Design (CED), University Scholarship, and Computer Media, Arts, and Animation (SACMAA).

- Lakewood HS will present workshops on its programs in Digital Media Arts and Communications (DMAC), Health Occupations & Sports Medicine (HOSM), and Aquatic Biosphere Management (Odyssey Academy), as well as its Applied Technology Magnet Program and Merit Scholars Program.
- Millikan HS has planned sessions on its COMPASS program (Community of Musicians, Performers, Artists, and Social Scientists) and Business Academy (MBA), as well as workshops on its programs in Eco-Friendly Engineering and Technology (GREEN Academy), Computer Science (MIT), Career & College Prep (PEACE), and Gifted & Talented Students (QUEST).
- Long Beach Poly HS will offer workshops on its Medical Academy (MEDS), International Studies Program (Center for International Curriculum - CIC), Career Preparation Academy (Pacific Rim), and University Readiness Program (PACE).
- Wilson Classical HS will conduct a session on its General Liberal Arts / College Prep Program (WAVE), as well as workshops on its special programs in Performing and Visual Arts, Environmental Affairs, Leadership and Public Service, Medicine and Biotechnology, and Information and Communication Technology.
- In addition, Long Beach's newest High Schools--Browning, CAMS, McBride, Renaissance, and Sato--will all present workshops detailing the exciting new developments on their campuses.
- Finally, every family is encouraged to attend the workshop Choice 101, at which answers to questions on High School Choice will be the focus--dates, times, policies, procedures.
