How Can I Decide?
For help to decide which High School matches you best, try our Career Interest Survey! We've put a free copy of the Survey in the locker above for you, in PDF format. It takes about 20 minutes to complete this Survey and interpret your results. Here's how it works.
- First, print out both documents in the locker--in other words, a copy of the Career Interest Survey (two pages), and a copy of "Score Your Answers" document, also two pages long.
- Next, get a pencil or pen and complete the Career Interest Survey. The Survey contains 15 short lists of things that you might like or be interested to try. Note the small checkboxes beside these items. Read through all the items in all 15 lists, putting a check beside any description that interests you or which you think you might enjoy.
- Go back through the Survey, counting your checks in each of the 15 Boxes to determine which lists you found most inviting. Write the total of checks in each Box in the blanks provided. Finally, identify your Top Three Boxes by writing their numbers in the "Top 3 Box" on page two of the Survey.
- To interpret your results, have the "Score Your Answers" document in hand. Copy your totals from each Box on the Survey to the corresponding Box in the right-hand column of the Score Your Answers Sheet.
- Each row on the Score Your Answers sheet corresponds to one Box of items on the Survey. The rows on the Score sheet represent subjects or career clusters. Each row shows job titles, school subjects, and specialized programs or small learning communities (SLCs) in Long Beach Unified that train high-school students in related skills.
- So, knowing which career clusters you voted into your Top 3, you can look at the next-to-last column in the table to see what schools in Long Beach offer specialized training in that sort of thing. Voila! You have list of schools and programs that you'd like to find out more about.
You now have the perfect list to take to the Choice Fair at Cabrillo on October 24, to one of the Regional Information Nights between October 27 and November 9, or to a Site Visit at one of the High Schools between November 14 and December 8. Good luck!
